What is Resicoat EL?

Resicoat is AkzoNobel’s functional powder coating line, originally developed in 1971 and on the market for 50 years in 2021 – a testament to the brand’s durability and reliability

Resicoat’s EL series is specifically aimed at industrial and electrical applications. These include electrical insulation for transformers, motor parts, bus bars, battery systems and general industrial components

Typical properties of Resicoat EL

Electrical insulation

Resicoat EL is ideal for insulation of components such as hairpin stators, rotor-stator configurations and bus bars. The coatings offer high dielectric strength and meet UL standards such as UL 94 (V-0), UL 746B and UL 1446 Classes F and H

Excellent chemical and thermal resistance

The epoxy base provides protective properties against chemicals and moisture, and helps with thermal management – especially relevant for demanding applications up to 180 °C (Class H)

Broad industrial applicability

EL Series applications include battery components (requiring cell-to-cell isolation), electronic components, and thermally challenging applications such as EV systems

Environmentally friendly and sustainable

Resicoat coatings are solvent-free and free of VOCs or heavy metals. They have environmental certifications such as SMaRT and score low on carbon footprint

In addition, Resicoat coating has proven long-term durability; a 25-year field trial showed that well-insulated pipe sections continued to function without corrosion

Suitable for drinking water applications

Although this relates more to the Resicoat line in general, there are applications certified for drinking water; the coating is Kiwa-certified, chemically resistant and abrasion-resistant – with typically a layer thickness around 400 µm
