Graphite coatings and MoS2 coatings.

MoS2 (Molybdenum disulfide) coatings and graphite coatings are the most commonly used dry film lubricants for parts where high surface pressure and low coefficient of friction are important.
Because both coating types are dry film lubricants, oils and greases are not required to reduce friction.

The advantages of this are that no dirt can get into the lubrication and the structure is lubricated for its entire life cycle.
This can also be a big advantage in structures where it is difficult or impossible to access lubrication later.

The major advantages of a Graphite and MoS2 coating are:

  • Self-lubricating coating
  • No other lubricants, oils or greases required
  • Reduction of coefficient of friction
  • Improvement in sliding properties
  • Lifetime extending
  • Less maintenance

Applications where this coating is used are generally those that require a lubricant.
This coating particularly suits products that are difficult to lubricate after installation or where no liquid lubricant can/may be used.

Typical applications are:

  • Gears
  • Spindles
  • Bearing shells
  • Engine parts

Practical applications may include:

  • Height adjustments of beds, desks, etc.
  • Mechanisms for opening roofs in greenhouse construction
  • Parts for ship stabilizers
