Klüber lubrication

Klüber Lubrication – Coatings and Lubrication Systems

Although Klüber is primarily known for its high-quality lubricants, they also offer an extensive line of functional coatings, particularly bonded coatings (also known as anti-friction tribo-coatings ). These coatings provide dry, permanently bonded lubrication layers that offer various industrial benefits.

What are bonded coatings?

  • Composition: similar to paint, but instead of pigments, these coatings contain solid lubricants such as PTFE, MoS₂ (molybdenum disulfide), boron nitride, graphite, and an organic or inorganic binder plus solvent (organic or water).
  • Principle of operation: after curing, they form a thin, dry, adhesive lubricating layer that does not wash away or attract dirt – ideal for lifetime lubrication.

Key benefits

  • Longer life & low maintenance: no re-lubrication required, reducing maintenance costs.
  • Hygienic & safe: no leaks, suitable for environments where cleanliness is crucial (precision spatial applications).
  • High temperature resistance: effective at temperatures >300 °C.
  • Application to various materials: available for metals, plastics and even elastomers such as rubbers.
  • Improved functionality: reduces stick-slip, noise, friction and makes assembly and disassembly easier.

Specific applications

  • Metal & plastic components: at temperature ranges, high loads, UV exposure, vacuum environments.
  • Rubber and elastomer applications: ideal for seals, O-rings, weatherstrips, gaskets to reduce friction, wear and noise.
  • Automotive applications: for example, in door bolts, locks, springs, air conditioning systems, where whisper-quiet movement and long-term operation are important.

Known product variants through Coating Systems

A distributor (Coating Systems) lists some of Klüber’s typical bonded coatings:

  • Klübertop TP 03-111 – PTFE-based, thermosetting coating providing low coefficient of friction, with no stick-slip behavior; heat-, chemical- and corrosion-resistant.
  • Unimoly C 220 – MoS₂-based, hygro-curable coating, suitable for high pressure, vacuum applications, excellent adhesion to steel.
  • Klübertop 06-111 – MoS₂-based, heat-resistant, good protection at high loads and corrosion.
  • Klübertop TP 15-810 – Water mixable PTFE coating, fast drying, no VOC filter required, good resistance to oils and chemicals.
  • Klübertop TP 39 N A/B – PTFE, two component, flexible, apply up to 70 µm, wide tempering range.
  • Klübertop TG 05 N – Graphite-based coating with wide temperature range, low friction, anti-stick slip and corrosion protection.
  • Klübertop TP 38-901 – Water-miscible coating for hygienic applications (NSF H1-registered, drinking water-approved); reduces mounting pressure by 40%.
